Hyderabad's wedding season runs from November to February, when the evenings are cool enough to be outside. That is when the Terrace Lawn does its best work. We asked Nandita Varadarajan, our events manager, to explain how a wedding on the lawn usually comes together.
Sizes that work well
The lawn suits functions of about 150 to 400 guests. Many families use it for the sangeet or reception and hold the ceremony in Kohinoor Hall. Smaller weddings sometimes do everything on the lawn, with the mandap at the far end where the trees frame it.
A typical evening
- Afternoon. Decorators get access from noon. Our team checks the power load, lighting and sound with them before 4 pm.
- 6.30 pm. Guests arrive and welcome drinks are served at the lawn entrance.
- 7.30 pm. Performances or ceremonies, then the buffet opens.
- 11 pm. Amplified music stops, in line with local rules. Dinner and conversation can continue a little longer.
The food
Our banquet kitchen does a full Hyderabadi spread, including the dum biryani, pathar ka gosht and double ka meetha, as well as North Indian, South Indian and Continental counters. Families can also bring in specialist caterers for particular dishes. We discuss this when you book.
Rooms for the family
Most families take a block of rooms so that elders, out-of-town relatives and the couple can stay on site. The Garden Wing is the usual choice because it is quiet and is a short walk from the lawn. We give you one list to manage, with check-in and checkout arranged around the functions.
If it rains
Winter showers are rare in Hyderabad, but we keep a backup plan for every lawn booking. Pichola Hall is held as a fallback until the morning of the function, at no extra cost.
Weekend dates for December and January usually go first. If you are planning a wedding this season, call or WhatsApp us for a site visit. Nandita or someone from her team will walk you through the lawn at the time of day your function will be held.
