Ayurveda has always treated the rains as a season of its own. The air is heavy, the body feels slower and joints tend to complain. Each year, from July to September, our spa team adjusts what they do to match.
What the ritual involves
The monsoon ritual lasts 90 minutes and follows the same order every time:
- Foot wash and consultation (10 minutes). Warm water, rock salt and a few questions about how you are sleeping, any injuries and how firm you like the pressure.
- Abhyanga (55 minutes). A full-body massage with warm sesame-based oil infused with dashamoola and a little ginger. The strokes are long and rhythmic, not deep.
- Steam (15 minutes). Time in the eucalyptus steam room to let the oil work in, followed by a warm shower.
- Kadha and rest (10 minutes). A cup of tulsi, ginger and pepper kadha in the herbal tea lounge before you go back to your day.
Why the oil changes
In summer we use cooler oils with coconut and sandalwood. In the monsoon the therapists move to warmer blends because guests tell us they feel stiff and heavy. It is a small change, but regulars notice it.
Who it suits
Most of the people who book it are business travellers who have spent the week between meeting rooms and flights. It also works well for couples; the twin suite lets you have your treatments side by side.
Please tell us beforehand if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure or have had recent surgery. The therapist will adapt the treatment or suggest a different one.
Booking
- Available every day until the end of September.
- Arrive 15 minutes early so the consultation does not cut into your massage time.
- In-house guests can book through the front desk or by calling the spa directly.
If you only have an hour, ask for the Abhyanga on its own. You will still leave with the kadha.
