Hyderabad does not get a long monsoon, so we make the most of the one it has. From the first proper rains in July until the last week of September, Sunday lunch at Jharokha turns into a brunch that runs from 12.30 to 3.30 pm, with the courtyard doors open whenever the weather allows.
What is on the counters
The menu changes a little every week, but a few things stay because guests ask for them by name:
- Live dosa and appam counter. Plain, ghee roast and podi dosa, made to order, with three chutneys and a sambar that our South Indian cooks are quietly competitive about.
- Nihari and khameeri roti. The nihari goes on the stove on Saturday night. It is the dish most regulars head to first.
- Bhutta and pakora station. Roasted corn with lime and chilli salt, onion and mirchi pakoras fried in small batches so they reach the table hot.
- A Continental side. Salads, a pasta of the week, grilled fish and roast vegetables for anyone who wants something lighter.
- Desserts. Double ka meetha, qubani ka meetha with fresh cream, and a small kulfi cart.
The chai cart
Our colleagues from Chai & Co. wheel a cart through the dining room all afternoon with Irani chai, adrak chai and filter coffee. Nobody has to get up for a second cup.
For families
There is a children's corner by the window with colouring, a small menu of mild dishes and a staff member who keeps an eye on it. High chairs are available; tell us when you book so they are ready at your table.
Good to know
- Brunch runs every Sunday until 27 September, 12.30 to 3.30 pm.
- Courtyard tables go first. Book a day ahead if you want one.
- In-house guests can add brunch to their stay at the front desk.
- Valet parking is available at the Main Block porch.
Call or WhatsApp us to reserve a table, or simply walk in. On a wet Sunday it is the slowest, most comfortable lunch in HITEC City, and that is the point.
